The research project Flevoland als Kunstwerk (Flevoland as an Artwork) enables Museum De Paviljoens to investigate the identity of Flevoland and the influence that landscape and land art projects have on this identity.
The guiding principle behind the project is the opinion of philosophers, scientists and historians like Ton Lemaire, Jared Diamond and Simon Schama who state that landscape forms one’s cultural identity.
Every year from 2009 through 2012, Museum De Paviljoens initiates research projects performed by artists at several locations in the Noordoostpolder. Flevoland als Kunstwerk is a continuous research project and education program. Artists reflect on the landscape, culture, nature and history of Flevoland and especially the Noordoostpolder.
