Et al
Every story about (art) history is a construction. In the exhibitions within The Dutch Identity? project, Museum De Paviljoens displays a selection of artists and works of art, which are used as a point of reference in networks and different story lines of recent art history. An integral part of this project is the mapping of exceptional and important artists, sources of inspiration, artwork, curators, exhibitions, publications, art collectors, events, institutions and cities. This mapping expands during the exhibition and is subject to continuous changes in perspective.
Nonlinear Editing: it’s an ongoing process!
In 2002, Macha Roesink set the groundwork for future programming with Nonlinear Editing, her first exhibition as director of Museum De Paviljoens. With this film industry term, De Paviljoens emphasises that other angles and perspectives lead to different interpretations of (art) history and its relationship to the present. History can always be rewritten. This principle leads to the The Dutch Identity? project.
The Dutch Identity?
With The Dutch Identity? Museum De Paviljoens aims to show parallel histories in Dutch art since 1960. Social trends such as migration, interculturality, new towns and Holland’s (post) colonial history from an international perspective all play and important role in this history. An integral part of this project is the mapping of exceptional and important artists, sources of inspiration, artwork, curators, exhibitions, publications, art collectors, events, institutions and cities. Until its final manifestation in the fall of 2012, the mapping of the project expands and is subject to continuous changes in perspective. The project’s title was derived from the art history publication The Dutch Identity and Art since 1945 (Geurt Imanse), which appeared in 1984 at the exhibition of the same title at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam.
