Stichting Bosland, Transformatiebos (Since 2005)
In the autumn of 2005, work was commenced on the transformation of another parcel of woodland. Over a period of twenty-five years, this hectare will slowly turn from green to red.
Every five years, parts of the wood will be cleared and trees and shrubs with red leaves or branches will be planted in these clearings. Eventually, the wood will be composed exclusively of red trees and shrubs, arranged into groups. Regular visitors will be able to see how the new red plants gradually win ground from the green, with the help of structural human interventions.
Change and renew
The process will illustrate not only how the wood is shaped by man, but also nature’s capacity to change and renew itself. The impulse is given by human hands, but the wood itself will work its own changes as well. Several entries for the competition proposed a red wood. This idea was developed into a feasible project by Ronald Buiting, the forester who is supervising the execution of all projects in Museumbos.
