Dagtocht Land Art voortaan inclusief Exposure (2010) van Antony Gormley in Lelystad

Op zondag 22 mei gaan Vrienden van De Paviljoens en Vrienden van Nieuw Land Erfgoedcentrum in Lelystad met de speciale dagtocht mee in het kader van het 25-jarige bestaan van de provincie Flevoland. Vanaf 1 mei start Museum De Paviljoens met de reguliere dagtocht Land Art naar de zes Land Art projecten in Flevoland van (inter)nationaal bekende kunstenaars: Exposure (2010) van Antony Gormley, De Groene Kathedraal (1978-1996) van Marinus Boezem, Polderland Garden of Love and Fire (1992-1996) van Daniel Libeskind, Aardzee (1982) van Piet Slegers, Sea Level (1989-1996) van Richard Serra en Observatorium (1971-1977) van Robert Morris. Nergens anders ter wereld is het mogelijk om diverse Land Art projecten van wereldberoemde kunstenaars in een gebied van bijna 1.500 vierkante kilometer in één dag te bezoeken. De Land Art projecten in Flevoland refereren allemaal op hun eigen wijze aan het polderlandschap dat nog geen tachtig jaar geleden werd gewonnen van de Zuiderzee. Een knap staaltje ingenieurskunde wat door Rijkswaterstaat zelf een kunstwerk genoemd wordt.

Sinds september 2010 is Flevoland een Land Art project rijker: Exposure (2010) van Antony Gormley. The Guardian schreef hierover:
“The sculpture – whose components were fabricated by a pylon manufacturer in East Lothian and then shipped to the Netherlands for assembly – is the fruit of nearly six years' labour and a catalogue of setbacks, last-minute losses of funding and enormous technical and practical difficulties. This sculpture has many heroes; and I am not one of them," says Gormley in his London studio, where he is hobbling around on crutches, his left foot in plaster. It is an object of mind-bending scale and complexity. It weighs 60 tonnes, contains 5,400 bolts and consists of 2,000 components. If this crouching man stood up, he would be over 100 metres tall; if an adult stands next to it, he or she may just be able to peek over its feet. Each metal element is of a different length and was hand-cut; the non-orthogonal angles at which they meet are a mathematician's dream – or nightmare.
The site dictated the form of the sculpture. The spit of land (or rather polder, an area of land enclosed by dykes) looks out over an endless landscape of brackish inland sea and the big, lowland sky. Seeing the site from a distance – from the outskirts of the town of Lelystad nearby – it is hard to read the scale and depth of the view. "It is a sublime situation," says Gormley. "I wanted an object that couldn't be read immediately," he says of Exposure. "The opposite, if you like, of the Angel of the North, which immediately confronts you. Dagtocht Land Art 2011
Vanaf zondag 1 mei ontdekken bezoekers van de dagtocht Land Art van Museum De Paviljoens de unieke concentratie kunstwerken in het groene Flevoland. De bijzondere ontstaansgeschiedenis en de mooie natuur van deze provincie zijn uitgebreid te beleven op elke zondag in mei en juni. De dag begint met een warm ontvangst in Museum De Paviljoens in Almere, gehuisvest in de bijzondere gebouwen van de architecten Robbrecht & Daem. Vervolgens gaan de deelnemers op stap met een deskundige gids van het museum die onderweg alles over de ontstaansgeschiedenis van de polder en Land Art vertelt. De reis gaat per luxe bus, een uitgebreide lunch is inbegrepen en per Land Art project is er ruim tijd om rustig door het werk te dwalen. De dagtocht Land Art van Museum De Paviljoens kost € 45,- per persoon, Museumkaarthouders krijgen € 12,50 korting en betalen € 32,50.
