Jan Wolkers, Berg van Licht (1998)

Report this thing as inappropriate

On the occasion of the completion of their houses in 1997, the developers gave the inhabitants of the Literatuurwijk an artwork.

The inhabitants approached Jan Wolkers as an applicable choice for their new neighborhood which carries the theme Literature. Wolkers' artwork of glass, Berg van Licht (Mountain of Light), was placed in a pond. The title of the work was derived from the publication with the same title by Louis Couperus. Even though the artwork consists of very thick and hardened glass plates, it has been damaged on purpose on several occasions. Currently, Berg van Licht has been renovated and shines its light on the neighborhood in the evening.
