Suchan Kinoshita

People can only deal with the fantasy when they are ready for it. De Paviljoens 2001-2012

The experience of time, the experience of space, and how these two are intertwined, are elements that reoccur in the work by Suchan Kinoshita. Every installation in itself is a fragment, a moment in time, that in every other environment, at every other moment, never is the same. This work was acquired after the solo exhibition Het verkeerde moment op de juiste plek / The Right Moment at the Wrong Place in Museum De Paviljoens in 2011 – her first solo exhibition in a Dutch museum.

Dominic van den Boogerd about this artwork in De Witte Raaf 152, July-August 2011: ‘The best artwork of the exhibition is invisible and untouchable. Passerby (2009) fills the rooms of the museum completely unexpected with the ear deavening rush of an arriving metro. A familiar sound at the wrong place. The audio work is a simple but effective disruption of our consciousness of time and place. At the right moment, at the right place.’

Suchan Kinoshita studied at the Hochschule für Musik in Keulen and the Jan van Eyck Academy in Maastricht. She lives and works in Maastricht. Kinoshita’s work was exhibited in M HKA in Antwerp, Ikon Gallery in Birmingham, and Museum Ludwig in Cologne. Her work has been showed as well in White Cube Gallery in London, Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven, New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York, and during the Skulptur Projekte in Munster.
