Atelier van Lieshout - Ontkieming (2001)

This week art ambassador Nienke Dijkhuizen, student vwo 4 (fourth year of pre-university education) at the Helen Parkurst College, talks about Ontkieming (Germination) by Atelier van Lieshout at her school.

“When I first saw Ontkieming (Germination), I completely could not place it. It is used to sit on, but it is not a normal bench. It is also not a ‘normal’ sculpture either, which you can only look at. Just like all the other artwork from Atelier van Lieshout Ontkieming (Germination) must be used. Therefore, the school is a good place for it: if it’s nice weather outside, the spot is full at every break.”

”I found out who the person was that made it when I was in Museum De Paviljoens one time and saw a scale model of the work. Now that I am an art ambassador, I also have gotten to know more about the artist Joep van Lieshout. I had no idea that he was so well-known internationally!
It would be nice if the work received extra attention in the art lessons at school so that more people would see that there is something extraordinary here at our school.”

Museum De Paviljoens will gladly offer you more information about this artwork and other works from De Collectie Almere via or 036-5450400.
