“It appealed to me to become the art ambassador for the artwork Gotische Kathedraal (Gothic Cathedral), right next to our school. I find it a beautiful artwork: it is big and spacious. It is something that you see every time you look out of the window at our school.
When I'm abroad, I always try to visit a local cathedral. When I do, I sit down on a bench and examine the whole cathedral closely. From the beautiful arcs to the stained-glass windows, I love it all. Over the course of the years a broad interest for that has arisen. That’s why I can picture something when I look at this artwork.
The Gotische Kathedraal (Gothic Cathedral) consists of 36 steel tubes. The tubes are placed in such a way that they form the plan of a cathedral. Up high the tubes cross each other. In this way sharp arcs are created, just like in a real Gothic cathedral. It gives a modern city like Almere some historic perspective.
However prominent the artwork is, it is an artwork that neither the children nor the teachers know the name or meaning of. You never hear the children about it. That’s why it seems a nice idea to me to bring it to attention once in a while.”
Museum De Paviljoens will gladly offer you more information about this artwork and other works from De Collectie Almere via or 036-5450400.
