Jan van Munster - De Energienaald (1984 - 1985)
"For me it’s a sort of light buoy, a beacon of the city,” says art ambassador Johan van Maare, who works for Stichting De Schoor in Almere.

“I see De Energienaald (The Energy Needle) by Jan van Munster as a moving star. The sculpture gives off light and has been at different places in Almere. First at the Leeuwardenplein, but when it started swaying back and forth dangerously it was relocated to the Bankiersbaan and now it is at bus station ’t Oor, where I frequently pass by on my bike.”
“Here on the Weerwater the artwork comes into its own beautifully, you can see it from far away; from the new city centre, but also from the motorway.”
”The artwork marks the highest point of the city. In 1984 Jan van Munster designed the artwork especially for the Leeuwardenplein. Precisely at Almere's lowest point he placed this impressive steel needle that stands 55 meters high.”
