“Het Gezin (The Family) for me represents my own family. The four of us came to Almere in 1977. We were amongst the first 500 residents. Het Gezin (The Family) was the first sculpture in the public area of Almere and we have also settled here ourselves as one of the first. Almere is a city of families. Het Gezin (The Family) also literally sits in a central place in the city: at the Market in Almere Haven, the first city centre.”
“It is a playful sculpture. Its colour and shape attract children. I live near the sculpture and my children played there as well when they were small. The sculpture appeals to me especially because I can translate the sculpture to myself and the city of Almere, I find that very special. I was happy that Het Gezin (The Family) was still available for the art ambassadorship!’
